Budget outcomes 2019: The Australian Government #budget2019 sets out the economic and fiscal outlook for Australia.

Last night, the Treasurer, the Hon Josh Frydenberg MP, handed down the 2019-20 Budget with the Government continuing to support the critical role of health and medical research in improving health outcomes.

The Government committed to fund $6 billion over the next four years for medical research with $3.5 billion allocated to National Health and Medical Research Council for research funding.

NHMRC will manage similar levels of funding to last year, with the Medical Research Endowment Account continuing to increase with indexation over the coming years.

The Government is also committing to a new $5 billion 10-year Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) investment plan across four themes: patients, researchers, missions and translation. This funding, together with sustained funding for NHMRC, will ensure Australian health and medical research brings benefits for the Australian community.
